In Aboriginal language the bush onion is called Merne Yalke. It grows on creek beds; when the grass of the plant dries out, Aboriginal people dig the bush onions from the soil, clean and husk them, and eat them. The white bulbs can be eaten raw or cooked — firm when raw, tender when heated.
Jean Nampajinpa Hudson learned painting from her mother. Her dreamings are mainly fire and bush onion dreaming, and her work is neat, bold and colorful.
