Dreamtime: Anna Pitjara was born in 1965 at Utopia Station, north-east of Alice Springs, into a well-known artist family — her late mother, Gloria Ngale, was a famous artist. Anna worked on the celebrated Utopia batik projects of the 1980s and inherited Dreamtime stories from her grandfather and father.
In the desert country of the Northern Territory, water is always precious, and Aboriginal people were ever vigilant for new waterholes and soakages. Anna's Waterhole design is almost an aerial view of salt lakes and the surrounding country — innovative, neat and bold. Her work is held by national and state galleries across Australia.
