Land of Utopia in Black — an authentic Australian Aboriginal design by artist Anna Pitjara, from M&S Textiles (design code LUTB).
Dreamtime: The Utopia region of Central Australia is home to many Aboriginal communities, covering over 3,500 square kilometres with the Sandover River nearby. The name Utopia (Uturupa) means "Big Sand Hill" — the red-dirt sandhills of the central deserts that Aboriginal artists so often paint. The two main languages of the region are Alyawarr and Anmatyerre.
Anna Pitjara comes from Utopia and belongs to the Petyarre / Pitjara family. Her dreamings mainly involve body painting, bush yam, yam seeds and sandhills.
