Join us for a unique quilting journey as we explore the Underground Railroad Quilt. This class is designed for beginners through advanced quilters who enjoy learning both quilting techniques and the stories behind traditional quilt blocks.
One of the most fascinating traditions in American quilting is the store that certain blocks carried symbolic meanings and may have served as messages of guidance and hope for enslaved people seeking freedom along the Underground Railroad. While historians continue to debate the extent to which quilt codes were actually used, these stories have become an important part of quilting folklore and continue to inspire quilters today. During each class, we will learn the traditional story associated with each block while exploring its historical context.
